LDTC promotes canine detection style nosework as both a fun reward based training activity and as a competitive sport.

From activities based on the daily work engaged by working dogs in border patrol and the forces, in customs & excise, bomb explosive dogs, search & rescue and medical detection dogs, a fun teamwork pursuit has evolved for both dog and recreational handler.

At LDTC we support and promote Scentwork UK trials with qualified and experienced trainers, judges, administrators and competitors across all levels of a nationwide standard.

The sport currently offers 8 levels of progression from Level 1 through to Level 8, with the dog learning to recognise various pre-determined ‘odours’ (such as clove oil, gun oil, truffle oil) generally hidden in articles and or items within various ‘search areas’ (such as boxes & luggage, vehicle searches, and other interior and exterior ‘hides’).  Your dog will need to ‘alert’ to you when the ‘item’ has been found and a great part of the training is not only teaching your dog to recognise the various scents (and not the decoys!) but in learning to read your dog’s body language and the joy of operating as a team.

Dogs really do love to use their noses and when you combine this with their willingness to please and their love of the ‘find’ …trialing, many say, becomes addictive!! :-)

Prior to the pandemic there was a busy nationwide Scentwork UK (this link will take you to the website) trialing calendar and as part of this programme of events the Club will normally hold at least 2 trials a year during the Spring / Summer months.

Our pre-bookable only classes are popular and spaces are limited.  Should you be interested in discussing becoming a member of the Club and the availability of places please call our Head of Scentwork on 07722 006 461.
